The Jackie Daly Collection - Original Irish Tunes
Jackie Daly is a renowned Irish button accordion and melodeon player and one of the greatest exponents of the iconic Sliabh Luachra style of the southwest of Ireland.
Born in Kanturk, Co. Cork, Jackie grew up surrounded by the rich Sliabh Luachra music tradition. One of the greatest influences on his early musical development was Ballydesmond fiddle player, Jim O'Keeffe - a pupil of the famous Sliabh Luachra fiddle master, Pádraig O'Keeffe.
The first accordion player with supergroup De Dannan, Jackie Daly has played and recorded with some of the greatest musicians in traditional Irish music over the years including legendary fiddle player Kevin Burke. He is responsible for changing the perception of the accordion in Irish music, and garnering it a reputation as a concert instrument.
In 2005 Jackie was honoured with the prestigious Musician of the Year TG4 Gradam Ceoil Award. He has also received the MJ Quill Irish cultural centre award in 2014, and the Patrick O'Keeffe Festival Lifetime achievement award in 2019.
With this collection of his original compositions, Jackie Daly reveals another dimension to his creative achievements. This book includes 226 new tunes, ranging across the may different tune types within Irish music, including jigs, reels, polkas, slides, hornpipes, waltzes and planxties. All tunes are written in a traditional style and are suitable for playing on various different melody instruments. In addition to this impressive collection of tunes, there is also a somewhat autobiographical song, that Jackie wrote when he was presented with the Kanturk Arts Festival Award in 2009.
A treasure trove of tunes, this wonderful collection is a must have for all musicians.
