Fintan Vallely is one of the most prominent voices in traditional Irish music today and is praised as one of the greatest scholars of the Irish wooden flute.

Merrijig Creek is an exciting album of new tunes and arrangements featuring Fintan Vallely and Sheena Vallely on flute, Caoimhín Vallely on piano, Daithi Sproule on guitar, Brian Morrissey on bodhrán and Liz Doherty and Gerry O'Connor on fiddles.

This exciting line up of skilful musicians has come together to record a selection of 28 tunes - 18 of which were composed by Fintan himself between the years 1977 and 2017. The remaining ten are favoured, complementary pieces that Fintan has picked up throughout his extensive career.

Fintan's iconic flute playing is buoyed along by the energy of this exciting ensemble of musicians. Sheena’s pulsing, driving flute playing and Caoimhín’s thrilling Cape Breton-style lift on piano both complement Fintan's own traditional style and show that there's no shortage of musical talent amongst the Vallely family.
