Keys are mounted on integral pins, following traditional design. All keys are made from nickel-silver. Foot keys are the traditional articulated design, with the key and pin locations positioned to give a quick response and a very positive seal. Keyed for Eb, F♮ (x2), G#, Bb and C♮.

Delrin Intermediate Keyed Flute

I’ve had this flute for a year now. Things I love are the strong resonant tone, particularly low D, the ease to play ( I got clear notes the first time I picked it up), it’s feel (thicker in the hands than a silver flute) and it’s authentic look. I like to ability to pick and put down without all the faff of drying and disassembling. To begin with I found the holes a bit of a stretch. I have shortish fingers. But infact it’s more about training your muscles to stretch rather than long fingers. That comes through regular practice so don’t be put off if your fingers are not long! I was previously on a silver boehm flute and the fingering is slightly different for C and F sharp and natural but I soon adapted. I still pick up the silver flute but the fingering just reverts to that needed for that instrument as the brain remembers the different weight and size and clicks in to that type of fingering pattern. I love the look of the instrument - people think it is African Blackwood.. It’s also great value for money. I find the easiest keys to play on this instrument are D (also B minor), G (also E minor) and most Irish music is in these. A major is also quite simple. It is more challenging to play in C, E or F but quite possible with a bit of practice. A year on and I’m playing in Irish pub sessions in our local town which I never thought I’d be capable of a year ago.

Delrin Intermediate Keyed Flute

Good intonation, plays nicely soft or loud, quality build. A bit on the heavy side and a couple of keys are a little awkward to reach for me. Overall, a good solid instrument at a reasonable price. Being in stock and rapidly delivered was a big plus.

Delrin Intermediate Keyed Flute (s)

My husband bought me this flute as a birthday present. I am a classically trained flute player, but lately have been listening to a lot of celtic music and had fallen in love with the earthy and woody tones of Traditional Irish flutes. I live in Australia and my husband said that the team at McNeela offered extremely helpful advice for selecting the best instrument for our climate conditions. The sound of the flute is so beautiful, and it makes a gorgeous display piece in our music room as well. Thank you McNeela!
