Ben Lennon - The Tailor's Twist Book
A study in text, photographs, music and graphic design of the fiddler Ben Lennon of Kiltyclogher, Co. Leitrim.
The Tailor’s Twist is a documentary, a biography and ethnography, a tune collection and a superb photographic archive. The legendary Irish fiddle player Ben Lennon's life is documented in words by renowned musicologist and Irish music historian Fintan Valley.
The perfect coffee table book for any Irish music lover, this stunning publication features a selection of striking photographs from international award-winner Nutan Jacques Pirapez' photographic archive, assembled over several decades, in addition to interviews, tune transcriptions and more.
The text is based on conversations with Ben, interviews performed by Fintan Vallely in 2010 and of course Ben's own personal biographical notes. It also includes the notation of 33 Irish tunes played by Ben, many of them his hallmark pieces.
The eldest brother of the renowned Lennon family, Ben Lennon was highly regarded as both a stylistic performer and teacher in the national and international world of Irish Traditional music. He began playing the fiddle at the age of ten, growing up in an atmosphere of home, céilí-house music making and served his time with his father as a tailor. He developed his skills in post-World War II London among superb artisans and there immersed himself in a cosmopolitan city lifestyle.
Back on Irish soil he returned to traditional music in its headiest revival years, first in Limerick and then Cork, while also engaged as an innovator and organiser in major clothing businesses. He returned north to Leitrim after twenty five years and relocated himself in local music, going on to teach his instrument, and to record and broadcast.
