Introducing the Renogade, our brand new, entry-level 5-string banjo. It’s a classic, flat back banjo and is absolutely perfect for anyone looking to explore a 5-string banjo for the first time. It’s a premium, elegantly crafted instrument with a mahogany resonator.

The resonator prevents the sound from being absorbed by your body, to ensure the music you make gets sent back out into the room where you're playing. And we’ve built this one from mahogany, as this produces the warmer, more mellow tone that musicians who favour a 5-string prefer.

It has a double-footed bridge instead of a 3-foot bridge, as this delivers a tone that’s even brighter and more vibrant. And we’ve given it geared planetary tuners which allow you to fine-tune effortlessly as you play.

And with the slightly longer, 22 fret neck, you’ll have plenty of room to explore an extensive repertoire of tunes and different styles of playing, whether what you lean towards is American bluegrass or Irish trad.

For although the 5-string is more commonly associated with bluegrass today, it has rich historical associations with traditional irish music, with the likes of Tommy Makem and Luke Kelly playing a 5-string in New York and Dublin respectively, in the 1960s.

Powerful Mahogany Resonator

The volume of the sound you get from a 5-string banjo depends on its resonator, and we’ve made this banjo’s resonator from mahogany. The best quality resonators are made from maple and mahogany, but mahogany has a finer grain which produces a warmer, more mellow sound, which is the sound that many 5-string banjo players prefer.

Hand-Selected, Quality Strings

The strings on a 22 fret banjo are more tightly wound than they are on a 17 or 19 fret banjo, so it produces brighter, crisper tones with greater volume. And all our banjos are fitted with carefully selected D’Addario strings as the quality of the strings you use is absolutely fundamental for a banjo’s sound.

Tune As You Play

We’ve given this banjo geared planetary tuners so that it’s especially easy to tune it as you play. Planetary tuners have a ratio of 4:1, meaning every 4 twists are equal to a single turn of the peg, which is exactly the ratio you want for speedy but accurate tuning.
